How Brexit affects the UK Au Pair Industry?
Updated: Jun 25, 2020
Under the current Brexit provisions, there is still free movement for EU citizens to the UK in 2020.
It is required for EU citizens who wish to remain in the UK permanently to submit an application under a new EU Settlement Scheme. However, this is not a solution for the European au pairs since they are intended to stay on a short term basis.
The EU Settlement Scheme application deadline is 30 June 2021. Therefore, an EU citizen au pair who enters the UK prior to the end of 2020 can remain in the UK until 30 June 2021 without any special arrangements.
At present the position of the EU au pairs planning to start their placement on or after 1 January 2021 is unclear.
The #SAVEAUPAIRS campaign aims to push the UK government to clarify the post-Brexit position of the immigration and visa requirements of these European young people to save Europe’s oldest existing cultural exchange programme for the sake of EU au pairs and the UK host families. As of now, more than 25,000 people have already signed the petition.
Cotswolds Au Pair Agency proudly joins the #SAVEAUPAIRS campaign and encourages all the host families and au pairs to sign the petiotion to make the noise louder.
